Honeymoon Round 2

We've had quite the whirlwind of events these last few weeks, starting with finals week. It was a killer this year. I had huge projects due in my graphic design and photography classes as well as a big test in my Theories of Art class, and we did a wood firing for my ceramics class that I needed to help out with. I was very busy and on campus for close to 40 hours that week. I hardly had a spare moment to spend with my extremely supportive husband. I am so grateful for him! He would bring me sandwiches and water bottles to the photo lab and sometimes he would just come in and spend time with me. Miles had 4 tests to take as well and he was studying all week. It was pretty hectic for us. He had 2 finals on Friday and got done at 1:45. I had already packed up the car when I picked him up and we headed straight for Salt Lake where we met up with Ali Jeppson to continue our trip to St. George for Miles' sister Sammy's wedding.

Of course in the mania that was our lives during finals week, I forgot to pack my temple recommend. I was crushed when I realized I wouldn't be able to go inside the temple for their sealing. In fact, I was outside the temple balling on Miles shoulder when his dad Mike came out and told me to come inside. Thank you Mike! One of the temple workers called my bishop here in Rexburg to vouch for me and I was able to go in for their sealing. It was beautiful. It's amazing the things you tune out on your own wedding day. The things the sealer said were so beautiful. I'm so blessed to have been able to attend. Sammy looked absolutely gorgeous and their reception was beautiful.

The morning after the wedding Miles and I had to catch a 9:30 am plane in Las Vegas. Miles' mom and step-dad, Sue and Todd, graciously arranged a shuttle from St. George to the Las Vegas airport for us (thank you again!). We ended up getting there a few hours early with the time change so what better to do in Vegas than hit the slots right? Just kidding... although I did put a quarter in the slots at the airport, first time since being 21. It was a right of passage I could not pass up!
When we made it into LAX our brother-in-law Scott and nephew Matthew picked us up from the airport (thanks guys!) and brought us over to our port-of-call. Luckily we didn't have to wait all that long to board our ship. We had a lot of fun walking around and exploring the ship. I didn't want to do that too much because we had a full day at sea the next day. We went to the lunch buffet (a place we visited all too often). The next day we were at sea, and it was pretty windy and chilly, so we did some more exploring and made an attempt at laying by the pool. Our ship had a rock climbing wall, an indoor and outdoor pool, a casino, theatre, relaxation room, a library, cardroom, a gym, and several places to eat.

Our first stop was in Cabo. Miles and I took a long walk to find a beach to lay out on. On our way there we decided that we were going to rent a wave runner. We found the cheapest place for the most time and had so much fun out on the ocean. I was a bit timid at first due to the wakes from several ships as well as the fact that we were in the ocean, and it didn't help that as we left the guys told me to watch out for sharks. But it was a lot of fun! We also went to Lovers Beach which was so beautiful! We explored the little caves and walked on the beach. The weather was so perfect it felt so good to have the sun on our faces!
Our next stop was in Mazatlan. This was my favorite stop of our trip. We got off the ship and took a boat to Stone Island. I would love to build a home there. We went 4wheeling on the beach and throughout the island. The people didn't have much, but it felt so peaceful and happy watching them go about their lives. Very humbling. Stone Island was wonderful and I highly suggest that anyone that goes on the Mexican Riviera cruise check it out. We went into the city and it was kind of dumpy but Stone Island is so beautiful. After 4wheeling we stayed on the beach and had some Mexican food and pina coladas and just relaxed for about an hour before we started to head back.

Our next stop was Puerta Vallarta. Another really great stop. We got off the ship and hopped in back of a truck, literally, and headed to our excursion. We did a 1.5 mile canopy tour where we zip lined through the jungle about 90ft in the air. We also repelled from 85ft in the air straight down to the ground. Due to the nature of what we were doing and the big gloves we had to wear to stop ourselves, we weren't allowed to bring cameras with us. There was a photographer that took pictures but charged $20 a picture and he didn't even get any of Miles and I together so unfortunately we don't have many pictures from Puerta Vallarta. It was so much fun though!

We spent the next two days at sea. Because this was technically our honeymoon, Royal Carribean sent us some non-alcoholic champagne to our room one night. We also went to the shows they had at night including a tribute to Broadway and a show called Boogie Wonderland, two really great comedians that were pretty clean and family friendly, and the Love and Marriage Game Show. We had so much fun on our cruise. The weather was beautiful. We didn't have much time to lay out and get tan but we did so many fun things that we wouldn't have been able to do any other time. I mean how many chances do you get to zip line through the jungle canopy's of Mexico?

And you can't forget all the lovely towel animals left on our bed each evening!

We finished out our trip by staying a night with my sister Jen and her family. I wish we could have stayed longer. I hate leaving my family. I loved playing with our nephew Matthew who is almost 2 years old and is so smart! He can already count to 10 and spell his name! And I just love hearing him say my name in his little voice. He's like a little parrot and repeats what you say a lot so sometimes I'd tell him I loved him just to hear him say it back to me! I love that little guy so much. It was so much fun to see my sister Jen and her husband Scott. We had so much fun with them and hated saying goodbye.

Especially hard saying goodbye when we had the longest day of traveling ever! We got to Long Beach airport at around 11:30am expecting to leave at 12:30 but because of all the bad weather else where in the country our pilot was delayed in Oakland, and since you can't fly without a pilot, we were delayed for 2 hours. We thought that would be great since we had a 4 hour layover in Las Vegas, so it would only be 2 hours in Vegas in 2 hours in Long Beach. But when we got to Vegas there was an additional 2 hour delay, so we waited our full 4 hours. By the time we got to Salt Lake and the baggage claim started moving it was 11:30pm, already a full 12 hours of travel. But to make matters worse, my baggage never came! Apparently the stupid grounds crew forgot it outside, but by the time they discovered that we were already driving almost to Ogden. By the time we got back to Rexburg it was 4:30am and we came home to 2ft of snow, no parking spot, and a 40 degree house. Jetblue decided to put my baggage on a plane to Idaho Falls for me, so we had to wake up early the next morning to get it. It was expected to arrive at 10:30. So we got up with only a few hours of sleep and went to Idaho Falls. The weather wasn't so great, so the plane with my luggage on it was circling in the air for an hour and was thinking about landing in Pocatello instead. You can only imagine how angry I was. So here we are, waiting for an hour just to hear that we might have to go to Pocatello now too. Luckily, the plane landed in Idaho Falls, but guess what... when the luggage started coming out mine was not there! Of course. So I called Jetblue to figure out what was going on, but their baggage claim department has the crummiest hours and they are only in their office for about a half hour a day in 2 intervals. We ended up being at the IF airport for 3 hours when I finally got my baggage. It was a catastorphy! But atleast I ended up with my baggage right? And now we have a couple of weeks to relax before school starts again. It has been very quite and peaceful in Rexburg. It hasn't stopped snowing and poor Miles goes out each day to shovel our parking spot and our walkway. He's such a blessing in my life!

Happy Birthday Poppy!

For those of you that don't know my dad, (which is probably about 75% of the people that read our blog) he is the hardest working man I know. He has always been such a great example to me of working hard but always putting family first. He hardly missed any of my soccer or lacrosse games in high school, and he even made it to a few beyond boring indoor track meets. He's been one of my greatest friends for my whole life. Whenever I was upset or angry, my dad would always come into my room and sit on my bed, put my head on his shoulder and rub my hair. He wouldn't say much, he'd just let me cry. And when I was going through a particularly hard time last fall the first thing my dad said to me on the phone was "Do you need me to fly out there?" It's so hard being so far away and not really knowing when I'm going to see my family next. Our daddy/daughter dance at my wedding in August was one of the most tender moments of my life. I was in tears but laughing. I love my dad so much. I know he won't be able to read this post because he's working all day on his birthday... but I want him to know how much Miles and I love him and wish we could be there with him on his 50th birthday! We hope the next half century brings as much happiness as the first, and we do expect you to stick around that long!
