Where the Wild Things Are party.

(Caiden's party invitation, front and back)

(Miles and his dad built Caiden a "Max ship" that brought him to the island of wild things)

On the morning before Caiden's birthday we had a little breakfast party to celebrate his birthday with some of his favorite little friends. We feel so fortunate he's found so many little buddies that he adores playing with. We had pancakes and eggs and lots of little goodies. They spent lots of time playing together while the mommy's all got to chat. It was really nice. We reused a lot of party supplies from his Lumberjack party last year, like all the wood pieces and I repainted the peg people. The only things I bought for his party were the food, the fabric for his monster table runner that I sewed together, and the awesome wood colored pencils that were his party favors. The morning before the party Miles' dad was trimming back our magnolia tree in our front yard and saved the branches for me to use in the backdrop, they looked perfect! I think everything turned out perfectly. Caiden's only request for his party was that he had a red cake. He loved his cake. For the rest of the day he made me relight his candles and sing happy birthday to him before taking each bite. He was really soaking up the birthday love. And of course, he wouldn't use utensils, he would just bite straight into the cake. The cake quickly became "Caiden only" but I wouldn't have it any other way.

King of the Wild Things.

When Where the Wild Things Are came out on DVD I was ecstatic and bought it. That movie was one of the most artistically well done movies I have ever seen. The lighting itself is an art. Caiden shared in my appreciation and quickly became obsessed. So when I asked him if he wanted a "Max an Carol" party he was excited. He was even more excited when I asked him if he wanted to dress up like Max and go shouting in the woods together. We had fun on this shoot and I think it shows. He was kind of in heaven. We went chasing the sunset, stopped a few different times, and he was a total champ, didn't complain for a second. This little man is truly the king of all things wild.
