38 Weeks.

Realizing that I am 38 weeks and hadn't taken any formal pictures of this pregnancy yet I decided it was really time to do that since baby boy could arrive any day now. I enlisted Miles' help and think they turned out pretty great. I would have looked better 8 weeks ago, but oh well! Now that these are taken you can come baby boy. We will welcome you as soon as you'd like to arrive!

Pregnancy Update.

The last few weeks have been a little nerve wracking and scary as far as my pregnancy goes. I went in for my 35 weeks appointment and was told that baby boy was measuring at 31 weeks and that since I had been growing at the normal rate up until that point they were nervous about leaking fluid or that baby had stopped growing and that I needed to have an ultrasound. To me, that sounded both urgent and scary so imagine my surprise when they scheduled that ultrasound appointment for two weeks later. I had a melting down three year old with me and was a bit frazzled so I didn't fight the appointment booking. After talking to my mom and sister I decided to call them back and ask to be seen as soon as possible. The earliest appointment they had was a week and a half away. After a lot of prayer and meditation I was at peace with that time frame but it still made for a nervous 10 days. On Tuesday I went in for the appointment and was told that my fluid levels and my umbilical cord looked good, that babies heartbeat sounded good, but that he was really small, they said 5lbs 5oz. Caiden was a big baby so this seems tiny to me. They are still monitoring baby closely to make sure that he is growing and I am now seeing both my midwife and the ultrasound tech every week. It's kind of fun to get to see baby boy so much but honestly because he's head down facing in I feel a bit blind looking at the screen. I have no idea what I'm looking at. As much as I would love to be done being pregnant and know that I can go into labor at any time, I'm hoping to let baby cook for the next 2 weeks so that he can plump up! Cross your fingers that he has grown by my next ultrasound.

As for me... I'm still a frequenter of the tums container. My heartburn is triggered by pretty much everything. The heat and humidity of Atlanta have started to make my fingers and ankles swell. I decided to take off my wedding ring because it's only going to get hotter and am now wearing a pearl ring my parents gave me for my 16th birthday that fits perfectly on my slightly swollen fingers. I live in leggings and dresses. Miles had to give me a pedicure yesterday because I can no longer reach my toes and continue to breath at the same time. I'm still sleeping pretty well but have the occasional pregnancy insomnia strike at 3am. A week ago I was woken up at 3:30 with painful contractions that lasted 2 hours. They were around 30 seconds long every 5 minutes. As soon as I decided to wake Miles they magically stopped. It was both a relief and a bummer. I'm trying to be patient these last few weeks because we still have so much to do in our new house to get ready for baby and there are a few things left on my Caiden/Mommy bucket list. I'm trying to soak up every second I have just the two of us during the day. I'm still incredibly nervous about how Caiden will adjust but he's transformed into this amazing helper these last couple weeks. I've been teaching him how to change diapers and burp the baby. He is very interested in helping me. He also informed me that he is no longer cute, that's for baby brothers. He is a big boy so he is handsome. I have to say I agree.

Cheers to the last few weeks of pregnancy. May the go quickly and smoothly.

Easter.

We had a very busy and productive Saturday filled with a lot of kids bedroom projects. To finish off the day we dyed a few Easter eggs (because I'm the only one that will eat them) and made some egg shaped rice krispy treats. Caiden really got into the egg dying, I almost boiled more eggs for him. He was so excited they were turning colors. We tried the marbling effect by putting vegetable oil in the dye and I think they turned out so cool!
Sunday Caiden came in and woke us up and snuggled in between us to watch an episode of Curious George, per usual. I love that he still isn't quite old enough to understand holidays and isn't filled with anticipation making us get up early. After a lazy morning Miles turned to Caiden and reminded him that it was Easter and pulled a treasure map out of his nightstand telling Caiden that the Easter bunny left it for him that night. That got Caiden up and out of our bed really quick. He went on a treasure hunt to find his Easter basket and was thrilled beyond measure when he saw it. Our Easter bunny is not extravagant. A book, a toy, a big candy and special eggs. But Caiden was in heaven. We read his Curious George Easter book and then played with his tinker toy blocks for a solid hour before we could convince him to go on an Easter egg hunt outside. He looked so cute toting his big ole basket around in our backyard. He slowly but excitedly found each egg and went back inside to survey his candy selection. We have 2:00 church, so we spent the rest of the morning consuming candy and getting dinner prepped and treats made for my YW. Before heading to church I made the boys take pictures with me. Caiden was not thrilled, but luckily you can't tell from the pictures. He was bribed with mini marshmallows. After church we came home to the lovely smell of our crock pot pork chops and quickly threw a hash brown/feta casserole in the oven. Caiden had bunny shaped mac n' cheese. Then we changed and went for a family walk at one of our favorite parks, McDaniel Farm Park. It was the perfect Easter Sunday. We spent all day basking in each other's company, teaching Caiden about the resurrection (he says it so cutely), and reflecting on our personal testimonies of our Savior.

Future blogger.

I brought one of my favorite bloggers [www.waitingonmartha.com] to one of my favorite locations for a shoot last week. It was a bit drizzly which made for some beautifully saturated pictures. When we were done shooting Caiden actually asked me to take some pictures of him on this bridge. I started shooting and he started posing. I think we have a future blogger on our hands. I may be a bit biased, but I think this kid is incredibly handsome. I can't believe how big he is and that he's about to become a big brother! So grateful for the time we've had just the two of us. May the adventures continue.

Mets/Braves game.

The Brave season home opener was a series with the Mets. I take this as a sign that this summer is going to be great. We decided last minute to buy some nose bleed seats and bring Caiden to the game. Caiden loved it, as we knew he would. He was jumping up and down excitedly the entire game which was terrifying for us because we were on the first row and the ledge was just a tad too low for comfort. We kept worrying he was going to jump right over it. We held on extra tight and cheered extra loud. The Mets have two more series at Turner Field this season, and you bet we will be in attendance. And that last picture? Swoon. Love those boys.

Flying Kites.

Early last week we had a few very windy days. I have to say I didn't mind all too much because I'm reaching the point in this pregnancy where the heat and humidity make my ankles swell up a bit, so the cold wind was welcome for me, keeping my ankles totally normal. Caiden and Miles didn't mind too much either because Miles came home from work with a kite. Caiden loved it! He loved watching his daddy fly it. He loved grabbing on and running with it. He was in heaven. May the next two weeks be filled with colder, windier weather... for me and for my boys.

Big boy bed.

We've been up to our noses in projects since buying our house. First on the agenda has been Caiden's room. We needed to transition him from his crib to a big boy bed for a few reasons. One he's 3 years old and it's time and second because we need the crib for baby boy. All the beds I wanted to buy were more than I wanted to spend so I found some plans for a farm bed and had Miles build it. He did a fantastic job. Caiden loved being a part of the process. We've had to make a few adjustments to the bed since these pictures were taken, but it is perfect. Caiden has done a pretty great job transitioning. We haven't had a problem with him getting out of bed or refusing to nap. His naps have been a bit shorter since switching, but he's napping for 2 hours so I'm ok with it. We've totally redone this room, can't wait to show pictures of the finished product! It's one of my favorite rooms in our house.
