*****SURPRISE*****

it's a boy
My sister went in for an appointment today and they did a surprise ultrasound! I was very excited to wake up to a text reading the following: "I know what we are having... if you want to know CALL ME" I can't wait to see this little one. Matthew is so adorable and I can't wait to hold this little boy and love him just as much. Maybe sometime in the coming months that will be a little Heidorn baby ultrasound. You never know! Keep watching.

Happy Birfday Niggy

Today is one of my top three bestest friend in the entire world's birthday! (The other two being Miles and Jen). She is my baby sister and a life long buddy. There's really nothing better than knowing that growing up if I needed a friend she was on the bottom bunk for a few years, or just down the hall. She can always make me laugh, sometimes at some inappropriate moments, and she's always there with a tissue in hand and a shoulder to lean on when I need to cry.  She's my best friend. She's the best girl. She's beautiful and everybody is crazy about her. My sisters have taught me everything I've ever really needed to know. She has seen me at my best and my very worst and loves me anyway. She's my partner in crime, my every night slumber party, my defense attorney and sometimes even my shrink.  We have the kind of friendship that will last forever. I wish I could be there to celebrate with you Nik, but just know I'm sending warm weather and the California sunshine your way so that you can enjoy this special day of the year! Maybe it will last an entire week.

Happy Poppy Day!

I've read somewhere that the first man a little girl will ever fall in love with is her dad. That is certainly true for me. My dad has always been my favorite buddy.
My dad works two full-time jobs but has never missed any of his girls soccer games, field hockey games, track meets, or lacrosse games. He's never missed a school play or a piano recital. He has always been one of our biggest cheerleaders and greatest fans. My dad taught me how to fish, how to throw a baseball, how to ride a bike. He's taken us to baseball games, hockey games, Broadway plays, on Daddy-Daughter dates, Birthday road-trips, and even to a Hanson concert. He always has a big smile on his face and a lot of love in his heart. Through his loving example he has taught me  about humility and integrity and the value of hard work. Raising three teenagers can't be easy, but three girls must have been really hard. I'm sure my dad always wished there was a little boy in the mix, but he's always loved us for the girls that we are and has seen the potential for the women we will become. How many girls can say their dad knows how to french braid hair and curl bangs?
My dad is someone that I know always wanted to catch me when I fell, but instead he picked me up, brushed me off, and let me try again. It couldn't be easy watching a daughter fall so often! I've learned that no matter how many times I mess up or how many times I break my dad's heart he will always love me, he will always hug me, and he will always let me rest my head on his shoulder while he rubs my hair and makes everything better. Happy Father's Day Poppy! I love you, I miss you, I'm so incredibly grateful for you.

Ta-Da

Okay, so I have completed a few business cards and want a vote. Tell me which one you like and why, and what improvements I can make. Some of them are pretty close to the same with just some minor tweaks and changes. For obvious privacy reasons I have left the contact information blank. I don't want my phone number or address posted on the internet where any creepo could get it!
Disclaimer: I do not claim or pretend to be any sort of graphic designer. In fact, my artistic abilities do not extend passed photography. So please be kind and don't hurt my little heart.

Sky High

For work yesterday we took the kids on a field trip. I usually work in the skate park (which is what I prefer) but the Teen Center was short a staff member so I got to go! It was actually really awesome! We went to this place called Sky High. Unfortunately I didn't remember to bring my camera, but I did have my cell phone. So the pictures are pretty crummy quality, but I just found out that I can bluetooth stuff from my phone to my mac, which is awesome. But anyway Sky High is a place with 5 or 6 arenas of trampolines. They had dodgeball tournaments and basketball games and everything is played on trampolines. Even the walls were trampolines. You could jump off a wall and just bounce back down. They also have volleyball nets and free jump arenas. Needless to say after 3 hours of jumping on trampolines I was exhausted and took a 2 hour nap when I got home! It was such a workout.

Pretty decent quality for a cell phone right? It was a lot of fun and great break from the regular Teen Center activities. Today was a nightmare though! I forgot how mean 13 year old girls can be. There were tears and yelling and cussing and oh my goodness it was drama central and I can not wait to get back into the Skatepark where things are more simple and the kids rock. I think it's important, every once in awhile, to be put into situations that make you grateful for the position you're in. It made me greatly appreciate the Skatepark and the simplicity my job entails.
Oh and I'm working on some mock-up business cards that I will be posting for the vote of the maybe 5 people that read my blog. But I think it's important to get opinions. Just don't judge my graphic design talent (or lack there-of.) If I could afford to hire someone to design them for me I certainly would. Oh well.

Design Dilemma

My Adobe Suite CS4 has come in the mail. Hooray! I've been having a lot of fun and have spent countless hours on the mac. It's great!
However, for FHE one evening Miles and I sat down and wrote out goals. For me it was 23 Goals Before I Turn 23. For Miles 24 Goals Before Turning 24. We both have 6 months. So far so good too. I'll post more about that another time. But #9 on my list is create and get printed new business cards for my freelance photography business.
So, with Illustrator on my side, I have been attempting to put my Intro to Graphic Design skills to work. I can remember sitting in that class thinking "when will I ever use this." Jokes on me I guess! It's a good thing I paid attention and pushed myself hard for that A (which I got after painstaking hours in the lab. I'm very proud of myself, it's the hardest class I've taken.)But I've come to a cross roads and I'm having a design dilemma. I can't decide what direction I want to go in. 1. the lacy classic professional approach or 2. the fun colorful approach that my photo blog has taken on (click here to take a look.) Please please please leave your opinion! I'm drafting up a few, but I'm having designers block, quite similar to writers block. I can't decide whether to suit the occupation or suit my personality. Comment away.

Lucky.

Yesterday was a good day. There wasn't anything particularly special about the day, but I felt very lucky. It was one of those days that when you think back on you smile and sigh and happy contented sigh. One of those moments where everything just felt right in the world, even if it's just for a moment. I tend to find these moments in small pleasures. Miles made me french toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast. He cut my french toast into hearts. Somehow, my sweet hubby always finds little ways to remind me that he loves me.
